First and foremost, the .62 caliber blowgun takes some lung power to use properly. Therefore, we are recommending that this blowgun be used for the older teenagers or adults, preferably not a beginner to blowguns but more for someone that has had experience with blowguns. We do not recommend this blowgun for children because we feel that you will not be satisfied with the performance of the blowgun if you do not have the lung capacity to use it properly. The darts are made of nails and they are heavier which makes them harder to shoot.
Second, let me mention again, blowguns are very safe - they cannot be accidentally discharged; that is, they require a conscious effort to propel the dart and the user must be looking in the direction the dart is being propelled. Having a limited range, they are safe to use in restricted areas. They are excellent for either indoor or outdoor use because of their quietness and accuracy. Blowguns are very unique because they have no moving parts. There is nothing to malfunction. However, as with any weapon, adults should always supervise young children.
BLOW GUN TECHNIQUE: Always make sure the barrel is clear. Never look up into the barrel of the blow gun as anything inside of it could fall back into your eye. Always wear eye protection.
Push the dart into the mouthpiece until you feel it snap into position. To aim the blowgun, keep both of your eyes open and focus directly on the target. Turn your head to the side to fill your lungs, turn back and place your mouth gently on the mouthpiece. Point the tip of the blowgun at the target and blow a hard, quick burst of air through the mouthpiece. With practice (and patience), you will learn how to consistently hit your desired target.
Tests have been conducted on blowguns from 1/4" to 1" in diameter and from one foot to seven feet in length. Combined with different weights of darts, the units we represent are the best of the tests.
SPECS AND WHAT IT'S MADE OF: The .62 caliber blowgun has a 5/8" bore. It has a .625 I.D. constructed of 6061-T6 Aircraft Aluminum. This blowgun weighs approximately 13 ounces and is very strong - a weapon in itself. This blowgun can support over 75 pounds without bending. These blowguns come in several sizes - 48" and 60" one piece units. We also have a flared 24" extension you may add to any of these blowguns for additional length. However, the 48" is the most popular model.
The .62 caliber blowgun is different from the .40 and .50 caliber blowguns. This one has a molded dart clip that slides on the blowgun easily and each one holds approximately 12 darts. The mouthpiece is curved to fit the mouth and is flat on top and bottom for men with mustaches and beards. The mouthpiece has a safety ring allowing the dart to go forward only. The rubber tip on the end is much like a crutch end. This makes this blowgun an excellent choice for a hiking staff, cane, club, or gun rest. Simply remove the rubber end and you're ready to use your blowgun.
AVAILABLE ACCESSORIES: There are six types of darts made for this blowgun. The steel shaft dart, ball-tipped dart, steel broadhead dart, 5" steel shaft spearhead dart and a 10" bamboo dart with a plastic fin. Another projectile which is very popular, while not a dart, is a paint pellet used primarily for survival and war games.
